Apple iPad mini 8 Preview: A19 Pro Chip, 8.7-Inch OLED Screen, Priced at $499
On October 6th, MacRumors released a blog post summarizing the latest information about the upcoming Apple iPad mini 8. According to the report, the iPad mini 8 is expected to be equipped with the same A19 Pro chip as the iPhone Air and feature an 8.7-inch OLED screen. The device is likely to be released in the first half of 2026, with a starting price of $499
Model Information
Based on code information uncovered in August, the internal model numbers for the iPad mini 8 are J510 and J511.
Chip Specifications
The iPad mini 8 will be powered by the A19 Pro chip, which is based on the upgraded third-generation 3-nanometer N3P process. This chip is expected to be the "mid-range" version of the A19 Pro, featuring a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU. It integrates new dynamic caching technology and unified image compression functions, along with an upgraded 16-core neural engine designed for complex AI tasks. Apple claims that the redesigned GPU architecture offers three times the peak computational performance of the previous generation.
Screen Details
Apple plans to switch the iPad mini's screen material from LCD to OLED, which provides more accurate colors, deeper blacks, and superior contrast.
The screen size is also expected to increase from the current 8.3 inches to 8.7 inches. However, to control costs, the iPad mini 8 may use a single-stack LTPS panel, which means it will likely not support ProMotion adaptive refresh rate technology.
Release Timeline
There are varying predictions about the release date. Research firm Omdia believes it will be in 2027, but reports from South Korean media and Samsung Display's development progress suggest 2026. The most likely release window is the first half of 2026, possibly coinciding with the launch of the new iPad Air.
Pricing
There is currently no official information indicating that Apple will change the pricing strategy. The current starting price is $499. However, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman noted that Apple may consider adjusting its pricing strategy in response to market competition in the future.
Stay tuned for more updates on the iPad mini 8 as we get closer to its potential release date!
