Sony α7V Will be Released In 2025 - SonyAlphaRumors Says

SonyAlphaRumors, a reliable source has reportedly revealed that Sony will not announce the highly-anticipated α7V camera in 2024. According to the source, the α7V will indeed be released in 2025. Although the source hasn't confirmed this information, its track record of accuracy suggests it's likely to be accurate. As a result, it's unlikely that the α7V will be released this year unless new information emerges or Sony changes its plans at the last minute.

Details on the α7V's specs and pricing are still under wraps, but it's possible that it may feature an upgraded processor and sensor, possibly incorporating partially stacked CMOS technology. We'll have to wait for further announcements to confirm.

Sony α7V Releasing In 2025

The current α7 IV was released in December 2021. It is equipped with a BIONZ XR processor and a new 30-megapixel CMOS sensor. However, it lacked an AI processing unit at the time of its release, which means it doesn't support subject detection AF or related video functions. Given that competing products like the Z6III and EOS R6 Mark II already offer subject detection, it may be time for a renewal.

Moving forward, here's a look at upcoming digital cameras as of late 2024:

  • A successor to the "FX9" will be released at the end of summer
  • The new "full-frame α camera" to be released in September/October
  • "Unexpected Camera" may be coming in September/October

There are rumors of three new cameras in the works, but if true, the α7V won't be part of the lineup. The earliest we can expect to see the α7V is at CP+2025 (February 27th to March 2nd). I'm also curious about the progress of the "α7SIV".

As for lenses, the "FE 85mm F1.4 GM II" and "FE 24-70mm F2.0 GM" are expected, and there are rumors that other lenses will be announced in the fall, so we will have to wait for additional information. The α7V will be compared to the Nikon Z6III, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it evolves. I'm also curious about the progress of the Canon EOS R6 Mark III.
