Nubia Z50 Smartphone

Before receiving it, I didn't have high expectations because I had to receive the Chinese version, without the Italian language and all the Google applications to install.

Quick unboxing, I turn it on and surprise! Google APP already installed, therefore Play Store and all traditional applications and Italian language! It's all there!

I tried it 360 degrees and the notifications arrive in a few seconds, any application works apart from Android Auto. If you need this feature on your car, unfortunately (at least for me) it doesn't work.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU is a missile and you immediately notice the speed at which applications open. Social media, bank applications, Whatsapp. A disarming speed and I have nothing else to add.

It supports up to 5G and has good reception, also WiFi 6, Bluetooth and GPS.

This is the 12-256GB RAM version and has very fast UFS 4.0.

The screen is another strong point! 6.67” AMOLED, 144Hz and it's really beautiful, with few frames and slightly curved. Unlocking under the display is not lightning fast and in any case it unlocks 8 times out of 10.

What did I notice right away? The Touchscreen! For being a TOP of the range it is unacceptable to have no sensitivity at the edges of the screen (in the curved part) and overall it is never precise. Touchscreen that has never satisfied me, although I will still use this smartphone for a long time.

Nubia phones are well-known for their powerful hardware and affordable pricing, as now the Z50 is no exception - equipped with powerful hardware, a good screen, and a BIG battery, it will serve most users’ needs.

Starting with the design...

The Nubia Z50 has adopted a smooth and clean-looking back, with nothing but glass (at least for my sample) and a dual camera setup. You must know that depending on the color option, you can go for a glass back (black version) or an eco-leather one (white version). Personally, I prefer the leather versions always, as it gives a nice premium feel to the owner of the phone.

The Nubia Z50 comes with a total height of 162.9 mm. The weight however comes to 199g. for the glass version which in my opinion is great, as it’s not feeling like a brick in your pocket.

On the right side of the phone, you have all the buttons – a volume rocker and a power button, as the last is presented in a nice-looking red color.

On the bottom, you will find one of the two stereo speakers, the sim tray which supports 2 sim cards, and the USB Type-C port 3,1, so you can transfer data to your laptop/PC at higher speeds.

However, I don’t see an IR blaster on the top of the phone, which in my case is a slight inconvenience.

The overall build quality and handling of the device are good, and I didn’t find any issues, inconsistencies, or something to bother me, except for the fact that if you use it without a protective case, it will be rocking on the table because…

I received the Nubia Z50 Smartphone about a week and a half ago to try for my honest review. The phone was shipped in perfect condition and actually had almost a full battery when I took it out of the box. The set up was very easy as the phone walked you through how to set it up. I did set the phone to English but a lot of the phone is still in a different language so there is quite a few things I still haven’t been able to do. I was able to download a few apps even though the App Store is in a different language. The phone actually came with a case and charger so I didn’t have to purchase anything extra. I would say my absolute favorite about this phone is the camera and video options. I have never seen a phone take such professional looking pictures. There are a lot of different photo options depending on where you’re taking pictures and how you want them to look. The same with the video too. If you’re wanting to take photos/videos at night, there’s a filter to make them look good. If you want to set it to portrait mode, there’s a filter to make it look more professional. Then after you take the photos, there’s so many ways to crop or edit the photo to get the exact look you want. I would recommend this phone especially for the camera on it. The photo I added of my Christmas tree doesn’t even do justice for hoe beautiful this picture looks and it’s just on normal camera mode. I didn’t edit it or use any of the filters.

Unboxing experience is pretty much on point. Inside you will see the Nubia Z50, TPU Case, USB-C cable, and a power brick that I believe is an 80W charger.

I received the Cyan color version of the phone and from first look, I thought it was light grey. I love the curved edge of the phone making it look sleek. The back feels to me like leather material. The screen has a screen protector that I'm hoping it would come with. I don't like scratching my screen at all. It's not a hard screen protector but a plastic one. It has a front facing camera and the back has two big camera lens and one smaller lens. I'm not sure what the smaller lens does but it has a flash ring around it when you take a photo with flash or using it as a flash light. Volume rocker is on the right side and below it is the power button. The sim card tray is located at the bottom of the phone right next to the speaker. I was bummed to see that it doesn't take micro sd cards to add more storage to the phone.

Turning the phone on surprised me with a bright high definition screen. The colors on the images are so vibrant compared to my iPhone. There was not much apps installed on the phone when I first opened it. I had to download google app store to search and install apps I mostly use. The apps that is preinstalled were all in chinese since this is the CN version phone. That really didn't bother me. Installing files were pretty fast. No problem operating the applications that can be found on the Play Store (installation of Google services without problem on this smartphone).

On AnTuTu (v10) we obtain a score of 1,538,000. Very nice!!

Concerning the photo part, the Nubia Z50 has a dual camera with a 64.0Mpx Sony IMX787 main camera with f/1.6 aperture and BSI CMOS. The second camera is a Samsung S5KJN1 of 50.0Mpx (wide angle + Macro at f/2.2 aperture + f/2.0 telephoto lens.

On the front, we will find a 16.0Mpx Omnivision OV16A1Q camera
