ASUS Set to Become First Brand to Manufacture Gaming Laptops in India

ASUS is making a landmark move in the Indian technology sector, announcing its plan to become the first PC manufacturer to produce gaming laptops locally within the country. The initiative is scheduled to begin this year, marking a significant step in the company's commitment to the Indian market.

The announcement was made by Paramjeet Singh Mehta, ASUS India's Head of Consumer Business for Product and Marketing. This strategic decision underscores the growing importance of India as both a key market and a manufacturing hub for the global technology giant, particularly in the high-demand gaming segment.

This move is strategically timed to capitalize on the burgeoning Indian PC market. According to data from IDC, the market experienced a significant 10.2% growth, with shipments reaching 15 million units for the first time. This robust growth presents a massive opportunity for manufacturers willing to invest locally.

ASUS has already established a strong foothold in the region. Last year, the company captured a 7.6% market share in India, and more impressively, saw its shipment volume increase by a substantial 18.8%. This performance indicates strong brand recognition and consumer demand for its products.

To further strengthen its position, ASUS is set to significantly increase its local manufacturing efforts. Previously, only 10% of the laptops sold by ASUS in India were manufactured locally in partnership with its Indian Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) partners. The company has set an ambitious goal to increase this proportion to between 20% and 30% within the current year.

In conclusion, ASUS's decision to manufacture gaming laptops in India is a multifaceted strategy. It not only aligns with the local manufacturing push but also allows the company to better serve a rapidly expanding market. By enhancing its local production capabilities, ASUS is poised to solidify its leadership in the Indian gaming PC industry and strengthen its supply chain for one of the world's fastest-growing economies.
