Anker Recalls Over 1 Million of a Best-selling Product — Find Out if You’re Affected

ANKER brand logo

Anker, the electronics brand, just recalled of more than 1.1 million portable power banks after reports of fires, explosions, and injuries. The affected device is the Anker PowerCore 10000 with the model number A1263, sold in the U.S. between June 2016 and December 2022.

Why was the PowerCore 10000 recalled?

The recall stems from a fault in the lithium-ion battery that can cause the power banks to overheat, melt, catch fire, or even explode. So far, Anker has received 19 reports of such incidents, including two minor burn injuries and over $60,000 in property damage, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

This is Anker’s second major battery-related recall in six months, following a similar issue involving some of its Bluetooth speakers.

Is your Anker power bank affected?

If you own an Anker PowerCore 10000, check the model number printed on the side of the device. If you see “A1263”, stop using it immediately.

How to claim a replacement or refund

Anker says you can submit a claim by following these steps:

  1. Write “RECALLED”, your name, and the date on the device (presumably with a big Sharpie).

  2. Take a clear photo showing the model number and your note.

  3. Submit your claim through Anker’s official recall website.

No receipt is required, but you must show that you’ve properly disposed of the battery.

Once your claim is verified, you can choose between:

  • A free replacement power bank, or

  • A $30 Anker gift card

How to dispose of your power bank safely

Do not throw the recalled Anker battery pack into household trash or standard recycling bins. Improper disposal could risk a fire.

Instead:

  • Contact your local household hazardous waste (HHW) center and ask if they accept recalled lithium-ion batteries.

  • If not, ask your municipality for proper disposal instructions.

Safe disposal is important for any battery recall, especially those involving lithium-ion cells.

Lithium-Ion battery safety: Why it matters

This portable charger recall highlights a growing concern around lithium-ion battery safety in consumer electronics. Overheating risks have led airlines to tighten policies on power banks and travel chargers, and incidents like this show why.

If you haven’t used your Anker power bank in a while, now is a good time to check your drawers and make sure you're not unknowingly storing a fire-prone charger.
