DJI Enters Smart home Space With ROMO Robot Vacuum Cleaner

DJI ROMO LAUNCH

DJI, best known for its commercial and consumer drones, is preparing to officially launch its first cleaning robot - DJI ROMO, a vacuum cleaner with a mop function. The move comes after four years of internal development and marks a clear change of direction for the Shenzhen-based company, which wants to anchor itself in the smart home products area. The timing is not coincidental - the market is in full growth, but also highly competitive.

Packaging that has already appeared online confirms the ROMO name and suggests an official launch in June.DJI's move makes sense given the global context: increasingly stringent regulations in the commercial drone space (especially outside of China), but also the need for diversification at a time when demand for smart home and home automation products is constantly growing.

Officially, the company has not yet provided clear details about ROMO's specifications, but Chinese sources talk about the integration of extremely advanced navigation and mapping functions, which are directly derived from the technologies used by DJI on drones. This could give it a significant advantage in terms of precision, efficiency, and autonomy - areas where most competitors have struggled to innovate in recent years.

According to data published by IDC, in 2024, more than 20.6 million cleaning robots were shipped globally, an increase of 11.2% compared to the previous year. At the top of the ranking is Roborock (16% global market share), followed by iRobot (13.7%), while Ecovacs, Xiaomi, and Dreame remain solid players in their positions.

In China, DJI enters an environment where Ecovacs, Roborock, and Narwal rule the roost - a market that grew by 6.7% last year alone. In these conditions, DJI's entry seems more like a strategic repositioning move, rather than a simple bet on a new product.
