CES 2024 - Different Technologies That Will Surprise You
Among the products that caught attention are a cell phone that folds inside out, a transparent TV and a toilet seat that talks to you; see event highlights.
CES 2024 took place on January 9th and 12th, in Las Vegas, in the United States. Some products presented in this edition of the event stood out for their technological leap, while others stood out for their level of eccentricity. Among them, a Samsung Smartphone that folds inside out, LG 's transparent TV and a toilet seat that can talk to you.
Considered one of the most important technology fairs in the world, CES has been held annually since 1967 and is seen by several brands in the segment as a great opportunity to launch innovative products. The 2024 edition was no different. Check out the some 'different' technologies presented during CES 2024 that will surprise you.
Smartphone that folds backwards
Presented by Samsung on Tuesday (9), the “Flex In & Out” cell phone has as its main difference a screen that can fold in reverse. Despite having a look that could be confused with a version of the Galaxy Z Flip 5, the smartphone is the only one from the manufacturer that can be folded in 360º, without covering the rear camera.
Interestingly, the resistance of the new folding screen technology was put to the test in some tests led by Samsung. For example, the phone was subjected to heat of 60° Celsius and cold of -20° while being bent. There is still no information about when the product will arrive in stores and its suggested price.
LG Transparent TV
The Signature T, transparent OLED TV, was the highlight of the LG conference, held at CES last Monday (8). Although there are other transparent televisions on the market, the 77-inch device from the South Korean manufacturer is the only model to deliver a 4K image.
The transparency effect is achieved thanks to the fact that the OLED Signature T is made up of two parts: a transparent screen and a contrast filter, which when lifted transforms the TV into a “normal” television. The device also features "Zero Connect” technology, which eliminates the need for wires to transmit images and sounds. Although LG does not set a price or date for the official launch of the product, it guaranteed that the TV will start to be sold in 2024.
Smart toilet that talks to you
A toilet seat compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant was one of Kohler's highlights for CES 2024. The equipment was presented under the name PureWash E930, with features to open and close the lid hands-free when it detects movement, plus a self-cleaning mode using integrated UV light.
Among the main attributes of the technological toilet are the front and rear wash modes, heated seat and several spray modes, including a softer and gentler children's mode and another that programs the spray to operate at full pressure. Usage preferences can be configured via the Kohler Konnect app. The smart seat is now available and costs US$2,149.
Foldable TV
Targeting a super-rich audience, the C Seed brand presented the 137-inch foldable micro-LED television at CES 2024. Named N1, the device has 4K resolution, HDR technology and a maximum brightness of 4,000 nits, offering an image with vivid colors and high clarity.
The device's folding mechanism works with the push of a button. From there, the screen is divided into sections that come together in the shape of a rectangle, completely hiding the display. Using a proprietary system called “Adaptive Gap Calibration”, the TV automatically adjusts the distance between the edges and calibrates the brightness of adjacent LEDs. The television starts at US$200,000 and has only two existing units to date.
Smartphone that changes color
On Wednesday (10) it was Infinix's turn to present something new for CES 2024: the E-Color Shift technology. This is a customization developed so that the rear panels of smartphones maintain different vibrant colors without consuming the device's energy. The technology uses microstructures in which colored particles are responsible for carrying positive and negative charges throughout the panel.
To make the color of the back panel change to the desired tone, E-Color Shift applies different voltages within the microstructure to change its electrical field through the controlled movement of color particles. This way, the back panel can have different color patterns without consuming the battery of the phone.
Windows notebook and an Android tablet at the same time
Lenovo also marked CES 2024 by launching its ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid, a two-in-one device that comes with Android and Windows operating systems (OSs) installed at the same time. The two OSes are divided into the following: in the form of a tablet, the user will have access to Google 's software ; In the notebook version, the machine starts to work on the Microsoft system.
In addition to not sharing the same operating system, each ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid usage mode has its own settings. Attached to the base, that is, in the form of a notebook, the device is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, 32GB RAM , as well as a 1TB SSD. When detached from the keyboard, the tablet operates with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip , in addition to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The product should be launched in the second quarter for US$1,999.
Self-driving Uber
One of the most significant launches at CES 2024 was from Zoox, which presented a taxi driven by Artificial Intelligence. The idea is that the vehicle is activated using a dynamic similar to that of transport applications, such as Uber and 99, in which the passenger requests the trip indicating the departure location and destination. The difference is that the Zoox service does not use a driver to guide its “robot taxi”.
The vehicle has a series of cameras and motion sensors located at each of its ends. The data captured by these sensors is read by an AI, which drives the car safely to the desired destination. The novelty is already circulating in cities in California, in the United States, but is only available to company employees.
