Apple macOS 13 Ventura built-in preview app no longer supports PostScript (.ps/.eps) files

Beginning with macOS 13 Ventura, PostScript (.ps) and Encapsulated PostScript (.eps) files are no longer supported by the built-in Preview app on Macs, according to a new Apple support document. On macOS 13 Monterey and earlier, the built-in Preview application can still be used to open these files. Apple did not provide a reason for the change. Apple recommends using other third-party Mac applications that can view or convert PostScript files. Apple says that on macOS 13 Ventura, you can still print by dragging .ps and .eps files into the Mac printer queue by following the steps below. Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Printers & Scanners in the sidebar. Click the printer name on the right. Click the Printer Queue button to open the Printer Queue window. Drag the .ps or .eps file into the Printer Queue window. Developed by Adobe in the 1980s, the .ps and .eps file formats were widely used for desktop publishing/printing purposes. PostScript was the basis for rendering on the NeXT operating system and was mostly replaced by the PDF format in Mac OS X.
