Apple Unveils 'Remnants': A Ti West-Directed Immersive Horror Film Coming Exclusively to Vision Pro
Apple is expanding its immersive video catalog into darker territory. A new short horror film titled Remnants, directed by acclaimed horror filmmaker Ti West, has surfaced within the Apple TV app, marking the tech giant's first foray into immersive horror content.
Scheduled to premiere exclusively on the Apple Vision Pro on October 16, the project was recently previewed through a 53-second teaser released on YouTube. Apple has officially labeled Remnants as its debut immersive horror title, positioning spatial video as a fresh medium for visceral storytelling.

A 19th-Century Gothic Tale
Set against the backdrop of 19th-century London and taking place at the eerie Waldmere Castle, Remnants runs for 27 minutes in total, with approximately 24 minutes dedicated to the narrative excluding end credits. The production carries a PG-13 rating.
Unlike many virtual reality experiences that experiment with branching story paths or interactive choices, Remnants remains grounded in classic cinematic storytelling. The film does not give viewers interactive control over the plot, instead adhering to traditional narrative logic. West leverages the spatial medium through deliberate visual compositions, utilizing dramatic bird's-eye perspectives of the castle grounds alongside unsettling, extreme close-ups.
Intense Viewing Experience
Early impressions indicate that the combination of spatial immersion and horror conventions makes for a uniquely tension-filled watch. Early viewers reported experiencing frequent frights throughout the runtime, with some noting that they kept their hands hovering over the Vision Pro headset the entire time, ready to remove the device and escape back into reality.
With traditional cinematic staging brought into a wrap-around spatial format, how do you feel about passive narrative films versus interactive experiences in virtual reality? Would the added intensity of spatial horror convince you to watch genre films on a headset?
