Meta VR Glasses get 3D Hunger Games film in Spring 2027

Meta VR glasses will officially gain a dedicated virtual reality release of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping in spring 2027, arriving alongside the debut of Meta's upcoming eyewear hardware. The release marks a major push into Hollywood studio tie-ins, featuring a full stereoscopic 3D conversion spearheaded by Oscar-winning visual effects studio DNEG and franchise director Francis Lawrence. Designed for cinematic XR enthusiasts and franchise followers seeking native depth video, the primary drawback remains the extended timeline, with headset users required to wait until 2027 to view the film at home.

Theatrical 3D Debut and Studio Collaboration

Under the agreement between Meta and Lionsgate, the feature will first reach traditional cinemas on November 20. Advanced ticketing for the theatrical 3D screenings has already opened nationwide, allowing moviegoers to experience the newly formatted visuals ahead of any digital home release.

To handle the stereoscopic transition, the production team partnered with DNEG, a studio bringing more than 15 years of dimensional imaging experience to the project. Francis Lawrence, who helmed the prior four installments of the franchise, worked alongside the visual effects unit to ensure the stereoscopic treatment remained faithful to the cinematic direction.

Hardware Launch Window and Immersive Ecosystem

The immersive release will follow in spring 2027, engineered to coincide with the market arrival of Meta VR Glasses. The consumer launch will let headset owners stream the dimensional adaptation directly within the device's media interface.

Meta noted that adapting the feature for VR reflects an ongoing strategy to broaden its catalog of high-profile stereoscopic cinema by partnering directly with prominent Hollywood studios and filmmakers.

Does the promise of studio-backed, stereoscopic 3D blockbusters make upcoming XR glasses an appealing alternative to traditional theaters for you, or do form factor and comfort remain your main hesitation?
