RugOne Xsnap 7 Pro Turns a Rugged Phone Into a Detachable Action Camera
RugOne has launched the Xsnap 7 Pro, a rugged phone that does something most smartphones do not: it lets you remove the rear camera and use it as a standalone action camera.
The phone is certified for IP68 and IP69K protection, which means it can handle water immersion and high-pressure water exposure. RugOne is clearly aiming at outdoor users who want a phone that can survive tough conditions and still double as a flexible capture device.
A Camera That Can Leave the Phone
The headline feature is the removable rear camera module. Once detached, the camera can work on its own and record up to 2.7K video at 30fps.
RugOne says the camera uses a 133-degree ultra-wide lens and distortion correction to make action footage look more natural. It also includes software stabilization, which is especially important when the camera is being used in motion or rotated through different angles.
That detachable design changes the usual rugged-phone formula. Instead of packing the camera into a heavy body and calling it a day, RugOne is turning the camera into a separate tool that can be reused independently.
Big Battery, Long Recording Time
The Xsnap 7 Pro includes a 9300mAh battery, and RugOne says the detached camera can record for up to 40 minutes on a single charge. If users keep docking it back into the phone for charging, total recording time can reach up to 800 minutes.
The camera itself includes 64GB of storage, enough for up to 8 hours of 1080p video. When the module is reattached, footage can be transferred to the phone’s 512GB internal storage.
That makes the system feel less like a gimmick and more like a practical outdoor recording setup. The battery and storage numbers are the real foundation behind the detachable design.
Rugged Phone First, Camera Second
The phone side is built around a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 5G processor, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. It ships with Android 16, and RugOne says it will support upgrades up to Android 20.
On the front, there is a 6.67-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, which can also work as a wireless viewfinder for the detached camera. RugOne says the connection range reaches about 49 meters, making it easier to monitor shooting from a distance.
The imaging setup on the phone itself also includes a 32MP selfie camera, a 50MP main rear camera with stabilization, and a 64MP night vision camera with infrared LED support.
Pricing and Availability
RugOne plans to launch the Xsnap 7 Pro on Kickstarter on September 7. The limited early price is €799, and the global retail price is expected to be $999 when it goes on sale in October.
That puts it in a strange but interesting position. It is not just a rugged phone, and it is not just a camera accessory. It is trying to be both at once.
