Anbernic RG 55G1 Launches With Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 and a Switch Lite-Inspired Design

Anbernic has launched the RG 55G1, a new Android gaming handheld built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 chip, a 5.5-inch 1080p display, and a horizontal design that clearly takes inspiration from the Nintendo Switch Lite.

The handheld is now listed by Anbernic as “coming soon” globally, with a sale price shown at $139.99 on the brand’s official store. In China, the RG 55G1 starts at 899 yuan for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version, while the 8GB + 128GB model is listed at 1,049 yuan during launch.

A Familiar Shape, Modern Android Hardware

The RG 55G1 does not try to hide its visual reference point. Its wide horizontal body, integrated controls, and colorful handheld-console look make it feel close to the Switch Lite formula.

Under the shell, though, this is an Android handheld rather than a closed console. Anbernic says the RG 55G1 is its first handheld powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon platform. The device uses the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 SG4250P, built on a 4nm process, with two Kryo Gold cores at 2.4GHz and six Kryo Silver cores at 2.0GHz. Graphics are handled by the Adreno A12 GPU.

The system runs Android 14, which gives the device access to Android games, cloud gaming apps, and emulator-based play, depending on region, app support, and user setup.

5.5-Inch 1080p Screen and Active Cooling

The RG 55G1 uses a 5.5-inch Incell IPS display with OCA full lamination, multitouch support, and a 1920 x 1080 resolution. The 16:9 panel should make it well suited to modern Android games, streaming, and many console-style titles.

Anbernic has also added an active cooling system with a high-speed fan and heat pipe. That matters because Android gaming handhelds can quickly run into heat limits when playing heavier games or emulating more demanding systems. Active cooling does not guarantee perfect performance, but it suggests Anbernic is treating the RG 55G1 as more than a casual retro device.

Hall Controls, RGB Lighting, and Expandable Storage

The control setup includes dual large-angle 3D Hall joysticks, a D-pad, ABXY buttons, four shoulder buttons, and Hall effect triggers. Hall-based controls are useful because they are designed to reduce mechanical wear and joystick drift over time.

The joysticks also include RGB lighting with multiple effects, including breathing, rainbow, marquee, and chasing modes. It is a cosmetic touch, but one that fits the handheld’s gaming-focused identity.

For storage, the RG 55G1 comes in 4GB + 64GB and 8GB + 128GB versions. It also supports TF card expansion up to 2TB, which is important for a handheld that may be used for large Android games, media, and emulator libraries.

Battery, Connectivity, and Extra Features

The RG 55G1 has a 6000mAh battery, with Anbernic claiming up to 8 hours of battery life. Charging is rated at 18W.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and wireless display projection. The handheld also includes a six-axis gyroscope, vibration motor, high-fidelity speakers, FOTA wireless updates, online multiplayer support, streaming support, and Anbernic’s RG Home software experience.

Anbernic also mentions AI features, including one-click game guide retrieval, real-time translation, intelligent dialogue, text-to-image generation, and image processing. These sound interesting, but they will need real-world testing before they can be treated as major buying points.
