In a public statement, SciresM reflected on his journey: "The Atmosphere project (and my work on Switch in general) has been a labor of love for me for the past eight and a half years, and I'm deeply honored to have been able to dedicate so much of my life to it."

He cited personal reasons for stepping down, noting that he is getting older and facing increasing responsibilities with less free time. A key factor in his decision is a major life change. "Especially with a child on the way in the not-too-distant future," he explained, "I've had to re-evaluate how much time I can spend on my hobby projects."

SciresM also shared insight into his work ethic, stating, "My personality is very much 'all or nothing'; I don't think I would actually manage to spend any meaningfully less time if I tried to only 'partially' retire." He concluded by expressing immense gratitude to the talented people he has worked with and for the community's understanding during this transition.

For context, Atmosphere is a free, open-source custom firmware developed for the Nintendo Switch. It unlocks the console's official restrictions, providing users with expanded functionalities such as the ability to install homebrew software and back up game saves, going far beyond the system's original capabilities.
