OPPO Merges OnePlus and Realme: A 'Reasonable Choice' for a Declining Market

Recent reports indicate that smartphone manufacturer OPPO has announced the formation of a new sub-brand business division, which will involve the merger of its OnePlus and Realme brands. This strategic consolidation points to a significant operational shift within the company as it adapts to evolving market conditions.

Commenting on the news, Wang Teng, founder of Yixiu Technology Company and a former general manager at both Xiaomi and Redmi, described the move as a 'reasonable choice in a declining market.' He suggested that the primary motivation behind the merger is to optimize the allocation of resources more effectively in a challenging economic climate.

Wang further elaborated that the smartphone market is unlikely to experience short-term growth, largely due to the impact of rising upstream costs. He noted that in response to these pressures, major smartphone manufacturers are widely implementing workforce optimization strategies this year to streamline their operations.

This merger is preceded by other integration efforts. On March 20, Realme officially announced that its after-sales services in mainland China would be gradually integrated into the OPPO service system. As of April 1, 2026, all Realme products, including smartphones, tablets, computers, and IoT devices, are now fully supported by the OPPO service network.
