Sony Electronics has officially announced the ECM-AX10, the world's first Eclipsa Audio-certified spatial audio microphone designed specifically for smartphones. Engineered for vloggers, mobile filmmakers, and content creators, this ultra-compact microphone is built to capture sound that feels natural, immersive, and faithful to real-world environments. Spatial audio for smartphone video
The ECM-AX10 aims to make mobile video sound expansive and lifelike. Its newly developed spherical microphone module uses four omnidirectional capsules to enable Ambisonics recording, capturing audio evenly from every angle. Whether documenting live street performances, sporting events, bustling festivals, or behind-the-scenes travel clips, the microphone captures ambient realism and distance so viewers feel as though they are standing right in the center of the action.

Three recording modes for different creator approaches
To fit diverse production needs, the microphone offers three distinct recording modes. Content creators can record in full Ambisonics for immersive spatial audio pipelines, select binaural recording to deliver a realistic three-dimensional experience for headphone listeners, or choose standard stereo recording for social media posts and everyday mobile videography.

Compact USB-C design for filming on the move
Weighing only about 24 grams, the ECM-AX10 is tailored for spontaneous on-the-go shooting. The direct USB-C connection allows creators to record high-fidelity audio straight into compatible smartphones without external audio interfaces or cumbersome cables. Paired with Sony's Spatial Audio Video Tool application, users can record footage, preview takes, perform basic edits, and export finished spatial audio content entirely from their mobile device, significantly streamlining the mobile workflow.

Developed with sound engineers
To ensure accurate and rich acoustic reproduction, Sony Electronics collaborated with Sony PCL, a Sony Group company specializing in spatial content production and post-production engineering. Sony PCL sound engineer Mr. Iwana highlighted that the ECM-AX10 delivers expansive high frequencies, tight low-to-mid responsiveness, and an authentic 360-degree sound field, successfully capturing the subtle acoustic atmosphere of any scene.

Pricing and availability
The Sony ECM-AX10 is available for pre-sale at a suggested retail price of $249.99 USD ($349.99 CAD) through authorized retailers. In conclusion, the ECM-AX10 marks a significant leap forward for mobile videography, bringing certified spatial audio production into a pocket-sized, plug-and-play form factor that simplifies the entire creation process from capture to distribution.
