HeyWhatsNew: YouTube Premium Prices in the Surge and Anthropic’s AI Model Concerns British Regulators

Hello, Heyuppers! The world of tech and gaming is constantly expanding. Let’s check out what’s been making waves this week, starting 12/04/2026.

British Regulators Rush to Assess Anthropic AI Model’s Risks

The Bank of England, Financial Conduct Authority, and Treasury officials are set to hold urgent talks with the government's cybersecurity agency and major banks to assess potential vulnerabilities and risks in critical IT systems posed by the latest artificial intelligence model from Anthropic.

The Claude Mythos Preview model is being deployed as part of “Project Glasswing,” a controlled initiative under which select organizations are permitted to use the unreleased Claude Mythos Preview model for defensive cybersecurity purposes. The talks are meant to begin within the next fortnight. When asked for a comment by Reuters, Anthropic did not respond. The BoE, FCA, and NCSC declined to comment, and the UK Treasury was not immediately available for comment.

OpenAI GitHub Actions Misconfiguration Leads to Axios Cyber-Attack

On the 10th of April, OpenAI confirmed that a third-party developer tool called Axios was compromised on March 31 as part of a broader supply chain attack. In the attack, a GitHub Actions workflow used by OpenAI was allowed to download and execute a 'malicious' version of Axios.

The workflow had access to a certificate and notarization material used for signing macOS applications, including ChatGPT Desktop, Codex, Codex-cli, and Atlas. However, the company found that the signing certificate in the workflow was likely unsuccessfully exfiltrated by the 'malicious' payload, and maintains that no user data, passwords, OpenAI API keys, systems, or intellectual property were compromised.

OpenAI is now updating its security certifications and asking all macOS users to update their OpenAI apps to the latest versions to prevent the risk of someone attempting to distribute a fake app. Effective May 8, older versions of OpenAI's macOS desktop apps will no longer receive updates or support and may not be functional, the ChatGPT maker said.

TeenAegis AI Harm Index Says OpenAI Is Low Risk to Teens and Children

TeenAegis has officially launched as an intelligence-led platform to protect children online from the harms of emerging technologies. It recently released a new AI Harm Index, which is the first publicly available, evidence-based risk-scoring system that ranks AI platforms by their danger to children and teenagers.

Scores are derived from NCMEC CyberTipline data, FTC enforcement actions, court filings, and independent safety research. The index scores 10 major AI platforms across documented harm types, including CSAM generation, grooming facilitation, suicidal ideation, and age verification failures.

OpenAI has scored the lowest risk score on the TeenAegis index. Siobhan MacDermott, CEO of TeenAegis, noted that the company “operates one of the most complex harm surfaces in the ecosystem—spanning text, image and video generation, as well as a global API layer,” thus making its risk management posture “uniquely consequential." She summarized that the index was built to hold bad actors accountable, but that it should also recognize when a company is doing the work.

YouTube Premium Prices Set to Increase for US Users

For the first time since 2023, YouTube is set to raise its Premium plan prices for US users. The platform has already been facing backlash about ads, with users claiming that 90-second unskippable ads have been added for TV viewers; an allegation that YouTube has denied.

The ad-free subscription plan allows offline downloads and features access to YouTube Music. Now, US YouTube Premium users can expect a $2 price hike per month to $15.99. YouTube Premium family plans, which allow a user to add up to five family members and previously cost $22.99 per month, will also be hiked up to $26.99.

Premium Lite is set to rise by $1 to $8.99 per month, while a YouTube Music subscription goes up by $1 to $11.99 per month. The company stated that the price increases will allow it to “continue delivering a high-quality experience that supports creators and artists on YouTube.”

Apple’s New AI Glasses Might Mean Competition for Meta and Google

Apple is now set to launch its own version of AI glasses soon. Much like Meta’s offering, the glasses are meant to assist with daily tasks, allowing users to capture images and video, sync with a smartphone for editing and sharing, handle phone calls, listen to notifications, play music, and enable hands-free interaction via a voice assistant, which is set to be the upgraded Siri coming in iOS 27.

The glasses form part of Apple’s three-pronged AI wearables strategy that includes new AirPods and a camera-equipped pendant. Each device is designed to leverage computer vision to interpret the user’s surroundings and feed contextual awareness into Siri and Apple Intelligence.

Employees working on the project have stated that Apple’s strategy is to outdo competitors by tightly integrating the glasses with the iPhone and offering a higher-end build. The company is looking to tackle frame design independently, unlike Meta, which partnered with EssilorLuxottica SA for frames.
