Android 15 to add iPhone-like Battery Health Feature

Android 15 battery health feature

A useful feature of iOS is the battery status display. This shows in percent how much charge the device can still hold compared to when it was new. This gives you a clear idea of how much the battery has degraded during use and whether you should consider replacing it.

The function, which is standard on iPhones and iPads, does not yet exist on Android phones. But that could change with Android 15. In fact, Nail Sadykov, the editor at Android Authority and Google News Telegram, recently discovered a hidden "battery health" screen in the Android 14 QPR2 beta 2 update . Although the function is not yet active, there are indications in the code that it is the same feature as on iOS.

May be limited to Pixel devices

It is also not yet known when the function will be delivered. The fact that the code already exists in Android 14 suggests that it won't take that long. Android Authority therefore estimates that this could already be the case with Android version 15. It is also not entirely clear whether the feature is limited to Pixel devices.

Of course, it is also possible that the function will be discarded again, even if the probability of this is low. The Pixel update in December added a " battery information screen " to devices that shows the number of charge cycles and the date the battery was manufactured. Google had previously given developers of third-party apps access to some battery information, which apps can use to roughly estimate the battery level.

Use your smartphone for longer

The battery status display is particularly interesting for long-term users of smartphones. The battery wears out faster than the rest of the hardware and may therefore need to be replaced after a few years. With the information, users can get an idea of how weak their smartphone’s battery really is.
