Apple's Next-Gen HomePod Mini Leaked: S11 Chip to Bring Massive Performance Boost

According to reports from MacRumors, Apple is developing a new HomePod mini. The next-generation smart speaker is expected to feature an updated processor from the S-series line, the same family of chips used in the Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and the upcoming Series 11.

Evidence for the new device was reportedly discovered by MacRumors within Apple's code, which references a HomePod mini equipped with a T8310 microarchitecture chip. This device carries the codename B525, which strongly suggests it is the successor to the current model, codenamed B520.

The T8310 core is the foundation for both the S9 and S10 chips found in the Apple Watch Series 9 and Series 10, and it is anticipated to be used in the S11 chip as well. In contrast, the current HomePod mini runs on the S5 chip, which was originally developed for the Apple Watch. Since the code only specifies the T8310 processor, it remains unclear whether Apple will market the chip in the new HomePod mini as the S9, S10, or S11.

Given that the new HomePod mini is projected for a late 2025 release, Apple will likely equip it with the S11 chip, aligning it with the Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3. This would represent a substantial performance increase compared to the S5 chip. The new processor is described as a 64-bit dual-core chip based on the A16, featuring a 4-core Neural Engine.

Currently, information about the HomePod mini 2 is limited. Beyond the confirmed chip upgrade, rumors suggest it will also include an Apple-designed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth combination chip, potentially adding support for Wi-Fi 6E. Furthermore, the next-generation HomePod mini may be introduced in new color options.
