Google Launches Fitbit Air Pokémon Edition to Turn Sleep Tracking Into a Game

Google has announced the Fitbit Air Special Edition Pokémon Sleep, a screenless health tracker that converts overnight data into in-game progress. The device is available for pre-order starting at $129.99 and begins shipping on September 15.
The collaboration addresses a common issue with health wearables: user drop-off. By syncing real-world sleep metrics with the popular Pokémon Sleep app, the device gamifies health tracking, turning daily rest into a requirement for catching rare Pokémon rather than just a standalone statistic.
Built on the standard Fitbit Air's hardware, the new edition features a "Sleepy Blue" micro-adjustable band with a custom Sleeping Pikachu silk print label. The screenless tracker monitors light and deep sleep stages, daily activity, and real-time heart rate. Once linked, the device uses Health Connect or Apple Health to pull sleep duration stats each morning. This data generates a Sleep Score that multiplies Snorlax’s Strength in the game, unlocking rarer Pokémon sleep styles.

While the standard Fitbit Air focuses purely on health metrics, this version acts as a physical peripheral for the franchise's 30th anniversary. It works with all Google Pixel and Fitbit wearables, requiring phones running Android 11 or higher, or iOS 16.4 or higher.
Pre-orders are open now at the Google Store and Target. The device costs $129.99—a $30 premium over the standard model—and includes a three-month trial of Google Health Premium. Shipments are expected to begin on September 15.
The biggest unanswered question is whether Google plans to release other franchise-themed bands for the Fitbit Air to sustain engagement, or if this remains a one-off anniversary release.
