Google Pixel Watch Update (September 2026): Blood Pressure Trends, Sleep Breathing Detection & Insulin Resistance Come to Pixel Watch 3/4/5

Google has announced a significant health-focused update for the Pixel Watch 3, 4, and 5, bringing three new monitoring features: blood pressure trends, sleep breathing quality, and insulin resistance trends.

Trend Tracking, Not Instant Diagnosis

It's worth noting that the blood pressure and insulin resistance features don't deliver immediate clinical readings. Instead, they analyze long-term data to assess how these metrics are changing over time, with the system generating an evaluation roughly once per month. These tools are designed for tracking long-term trends — not replacing professional medical testing.

Built on Massive Datasets

Google says the insulin resistance model was trained on over 1 trillion data points contributed by more than 5 million users, while the blood pressure trend model is built on billions of minutes of raw heart rate and motion data.

For sleep breathing quality, users receive a morning report each day showing how their nighttime breathing changed, helping them evaluate overall sleep quality and identify better sleep habits and environments.

Emergency Breathing Detection Coming to Europe

The Pixel Watch 4 and 5 will also gain a "breathing emergency detection" feature in select European markets, including France, Germany, Ireland, and the UK. It monitors for dangerous drops in blood oxygen saturation and can automatically call emergency services when conditions are met.

Fitbit Air Support Later This Year

Google also teased that Fitbit Air will receive blood pressure and insulin resistance trends later this year — though unlike on Pixel Watch, these features will require a Google Health Premium subscription.
