Nintendo Switch 2 Price Holds Steady for March 2027 Goal
The Nintendo Switch 2 will not see further price hikes in the immediate future, according to Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa. Following regional price adjustments rolled out across Japan in May and North America and Europe in September, the company aims to keep pricing stable for prospective buyers as it works toward a target of selling 16.5 million consoles by March 2027.
While price stability offers relief to gamers planning a purchase, hardware shipments have slowed considerably. Nintendo reported a 41% year-over-year decline in console shipments during the second quarter of its 2027 fiscal year, moving 2.67 million units between July and September compared to 4.54 million units over the same window a year earlier.
Securing Memory Supplies to Meet Annual Targets
The previous price adjustments were largely prompted by industry-wide memory component shortages that drove up hardware manufacturing costs. Despite ongoing pressures in the component market, Furukawa confirmed through an IGN report that Nintendo has secured sufficient memory inventory to sustain its production targets through the end of the fiscal year in March 2027.

With inventory pipelines stabilized, Nintendo is holding hardware pricing at current levels rather than passing additional costs on to consumers, maintaining focus on its 16.5-million-unit annual projection.
Sales Momentum and the Upcoming Software Pipeline
Despite the recent quarterly shipment contraction, the Switch 2 maintains strong overall adoption. Cumulative sales have reached 26.35 million units, maintaining a sales pace that remains ahead of the original Nintendo Switch during the equivalent post-launch timeframe.
Hardware demand is expected to receive substantial support from upcoming software releases planned for 2027. The platform's schedule includes the long-awaited next mainline Mario adventure alongside Pokémon Wind and Pokémon Wave, both of which have been officially confirmed for release next year.
Did the earlier price revisions in your region affect your timeline for picking up a Switch 2, or will upcoming releases like the next Mario title and Pokémon dictate when you upgrade?
