Canon Commemorates 30 Years of PowerShot with a Special Edition G7 X Mark III

Canon is celebrating a significant milestone—the 30th anniversary of its iconic PowerShot series—by launching a special limited edition of the popular PowerShot G7 X Mark III. This commemorative model is priced at $1,299 and comes bundled with an exclusive Peak Design wrist strap and a 32GB SD card, with shipping scheduled to begin in April 2026.

The PowerShot legacy dates back to 1996 when Canon introduced the first model featuring a 0.5-megapixel sensor, a camera that played a pivotal role in the advancement of digital photography. This new release honors that long history of innovation in the compact camera space.

While it celebrates the past, the core of this limited edition camera remains firmly rooted in the present. It shares the same internal specifications as the original PowerShot G7 X Mark III. The updates are purely aesthetic, featuring a sophisticated Graphite Gray finish, a new knurled control ring for enhanced texture, and a distinctive 30th-anniversary logo to signify its special status.

For those unfamiliar with the original, the PowerShot G7 X Mark III was one of the first cameras specifically targeted at the vlogging market. Its hardware includes a 20.1-megapixel sensor, a versatile flip-up 3-inch touchscreen, and a bright 24-100mm (equivalent) f/1.8-2.8 lens. The inclusion of a dedicated microphone input further cemented its appeal to content creators.

On the video front, the camera excels with uncropped 4K video at 30fps and 1080p slow-motion at 120fps. A particularly forward-thinking feature at its launch was the ability to live stream directly to YouTube via Wi-Fi, making it a powerful, all-in-one tool for vloggers.

The G7 X Mark III has had an interesting market journey. Initially launched at $749, its popularity among influencers and subsequent supply shortages caused secondhand prices to soar. Canon responded by increasing production in August 2025, bringing the official price to a new stable point of $880. This $1,299 limited edition package is therefore aimed at collectors and brand enthusiasts, offering the proven performance of the G7 X Mark III in a unique body, complete with bonus accessories, making it a fitting tribute to three decades of PowerShot history.
