HONOR Magic 7 and 7 Pro Launched With SD 8 Elite, More Battery and Better Camera
After a long time appearing as rumors, HONOR recently launched their new high-end smartphone duo, Magic 7 and Magic 7 Pro. Both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and take advantage of the chip's NPU computing power for a variety of AI tasks, from digital assistants to camera processing improvements.
The biggest upgrade on the HONOR Magic 7 Pro is the 200MP telephoto camera, which replaces the already impressive 180MP sensor on the Magic 6 Pro. The new sensor is quite large – 1/1.4 inches, which is often used as the “main camera” on some other high-end phones – and sits behind a 60mm lens. This gives you 2.5x optical zoom, which you can extend to 100x with digital zoom.
The main camera remains the same with a 50MP 1/1.3” sensor and variable aperture (f/1.4-f/2.0), with support for optical image stabilization (OIS). The ultra-wide-angle camera is essentially the same, with a 50MP sensor and a 12mm f/2.0 (122°) lens, which can focus at just a few centimeters for macro shots.
On the front, the phone has a 50MP selfie camera, using a 90° wide lens (f/2.0), housed in a pill-shaped punch hole that also houses the sensor for 3D facial recognition.
The Magic 7 Pro display uses a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED panel with a resolution of 1,280 x 2,800 pixels, a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and 10-bit color (Dolby Vision). It has a full-screen peak brightness of 1,600 nits and goes up to 5,000 nits when displaying HDR content. All that light is controlled by high-frequency PWM dimming (4320Hz). Note that this display is not flat, but micro-curved on all four sides.
The battery inside the Magic 7 Pro has been increased to 5,850mAh (250mAh more than the Magic 6 Pro) with support for 100W wired fast charging and 80W wireless.
On the other hand, the HONOR Magic 7 also has a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED display, supporting a resolution of 2,800 x 1,264 pixels, an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz, and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner underneath. In terms of photography, the phone has a telephoto camera using a 50MP 68mm sensor with OIS (3x optical, up to 50x digital zoom). It is paired with a 50MP main camera (1/1.3” sensor, f/1.9 fixed aperture) and a 50MP ultra-wide angle (122° with macro mode). The selfie camera has a 50MP sensor and a 90° lens.
The Magic 7 has the same third-generation Honor Qinghai Lake battery as the Pro model, with a capacity of 5,650mAh (200mAh more than its predecessor), and supports 100W wired fast charging and 80W wireless charging. The new HONOR phones also support IP68/IP69 water and dust resistance.
The company also unveiled a Porsche Design version.
