HTC Unveils Full Face Tracker For Its Vive XR Elite Headset
After unveiling the VIVE Ultimate Tracker, the pioneer of the mixed reality industry, HTC VIVE , returns with a new tracker: the VIVE Full Face Tracker , available to order today. Paired with the XR Elite, this plug-and-play model enables face and mouth tracking via a simple USB-C connection.
“It’s a great solution for a multitude of application areas: from more natural and realistic avatars, to supporting animators, researchers, training scenarios, healthcare, and much more. In the past, we've also seen amazing ways to use eye and face tracking for games and other experiences,” said Shen Ye, Global Product Manager at HTC VIVE.
"We built it using our VIVE Wave platform, with support from OpenXR as well, making development really easy. With this, anything created for the VIVE Focus 3's eye and face tracking will work with the new VIVE Full Face Tracker."
The new VIVE Full Face Tracker offers exceptional immersion in virtual reality. It helps capture natural and subtle facial expressions for virtual environments, gaming, motion capture, research, training, and more. It depicts facial movements naturally in XR, capturing up to 38 combinations across lips, teeth, tongue, cheeks, nose and chin, all at a tracking frequency of 60 Hz. This means that even the most subtle facial expressions are accurately depicted and spoken words match facial expressions in real time.
The VIVE Full Face Tracker can accurately track eye movements at 120 frames per second. It also offers an innovative self-calibration feature: the tracker detects the interpupillary distance (IPD) and automatically calibrates the headset for optimal visual comfort and clarity. This feature allows multiple users to share the same headset without having to manually reset the DIP slider each time. And of course, users can always adjust the diopters directly on the VIVE XR Elite headset to ensure visual clarity.
