Nintendo Announces September 12th Direct: Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary Edition Expected
Nintendo is gearing up to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the iconic Super Mario Bros. franchise, a milestone that has captured global attention. Back in 2020, for Mario’s 35th anniversary, Nintendo released several major titles, including Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which delighted fans worldwide. Industry expectations are high that this year’s Nintendo Direct will unveil exciting new Mario projects, potentially including the first official look at a new-generation 3D Mario platformer.

Another highly anticipated announcement is the release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which is nearing completion with demos already available at major expos. Industry insiders suggest that Nintendo could officially announce its launch date any day now.
Beyond these flagship titles, Nintendo has scheduled major releases for the rest of 2025 including Pokémon Legends Z-A (October 16) and Kirby’s Return to Dreamland (November 20), along with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Splatoon: Ink Squad, and fresh entries in the Rhythm Heaven and Friends Collection series.
The upcoming Nintendo Direct, streaming live on platforms like the “Nintendo Today!” app and YouTube, promises to be one of the most significant showcases of the year — not only as the kickoff to Mario’s 40th anniversary festivities but as a comprehensive preview of Nintendo’s game lineup for the coming months.
Which announcement are you most excited for? The new Metroid release, or the grand celebration of Mario’s 40 years of adventures?
