Apple Declares Final 11-Inch MacBook Air Obsolete
Apple has officially declared the last 11-inch MacBook Air as obsolete, marking the end of a device that once set the standard for ultraportable laptops. As part of Apple’s product lifecycle, devices discontinued for more than seven years are classified as obsolete, meaning they’re no longer eligible for official repairs or service.

Alongside the Air, Apple has also added two 2017 MacBook Pro models to the obsolete list:
-
13-inch MacBook Pro with four Thunderbolt 3 ports
-
15-inch MacBook Pro
The End of the 11-Inch Era
First introduced as Apple’s most compact MacBook, the 11-inch Air was last sold in 2016. Known for its lightweight design and strong performance for its size, it was a favorite among students, travelers, and minimalists.
Now, Apple will no longer provide repairs, although battery replacements may still be available for up to 10 years after discontinuation, depending on parts availability.
Where the MacBook Air Stands Today
Apple’s current MacBook Air lineup has shifted to larger displays, with 13.6-inch and 15.3-inch models. Looking ahead, rumors suggest that Apple may be working on a new 12.9-inch MacBook Air powered by the A18 Pro chip, further expanding the family.
Vintage & Obsolete Updates
In addition to the MacBook changes, Apple has added the iPhone 8 Plus (64GB & 256GB versions) to its vintage products list. Vintage devices are those that have been discontinued for more than five years, and Apple service providers may continue to repair them for up to two additional years, as long as parts remain in stock.

Why It Matters
The retirement of the 11-inch MacBook Air marks the close of an iconic chapter in Apple’s history. It was a laptop that defined portability, sleek design, and practicality, paving the way for today’s ultra-thin MacBooks.
