Samsung Reportedly Developing Galaxy Z TriFold 2: Lighter, Thinner, and Tougher — Price Expected to Hold at $2,899

September 15, 2026 — Samsung has reportedly kicked off development of the Galaxy Z TriFold 2, the successor to its first tri-fold smartphone. According to a post by tipster Lanzuk on the Naver blog, the Korean tech giant is targeting three key improvements over the original model: a thinner body, reduced weight, and enhanced overall durability. The device is expected to launch in 2027.

Same $2,899 Price — If Costs Cooperate

The leaker claims Samsung aims to keep pricing in line with the first-generation Galaxy Z TriFold, with a starting price of around $2,899 (≈19,496 yuan). That said, with component costs continuing to climb, whether Samsung can actually hold that price point remains uncertain.

Weight and Thickness Are the Battle

For context, the current Galaxy Z TriFold measures 12.9mm thick when folded and weighs roughly 309g. Compare that to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which comes in at just 8.9mm folded and 215g. If the next-generation tri-fold can narrow that gap, everyday portability and handling — the biggest pain points of dual-screen tri-folds — would improve dramatically.

A Rollable May Arrive Alongside It

Samsung could also unveil an entirely new rollable-screen phone at the same event. Unlike foldables, rollables skip the traditional hinge in favor of a "pull-to-extend" mechanism that expands the display area on demand. Market research firm Omdia previously estimated such a device — potentially named the Galaxy Z Slide — would feature a 10-inch, 16:9 panel with 440.6 ppi.

Years of Screen Tech Behind It

The concept isn't coming out of nowhere. Samsung Display showed off its Flex Hybrid panel at CES 2023, which combined folding and sliding capabilities, and later unveiled the 12.4-inch Rollable Flex at SID 2023 — a display that could stretch from just 49mm to 254.4mm.
