REDMAGIC 12 Pro: what we know so far

REDMAGIC is beginning to reveal the first details of its upcoming REDMAGIC 12 Pro — and the message is clear: the next flagship is designed to feel lighter in the hand without stepping back from the performance demands of serious mobile gaming.

The brand calls it its best-feeling REDMAGIC flagship yet, built around four design priorities: lighter, thinner, narrower, and rounder. Early teaser images point to refined corners, slimmer proportions, and even tighter display borders — a notable direction for a gaming phone that also needs space for high-performance hardware and advanced cooling.

A New Benchmark for Bezels

The REDMAGIC 12 Pro is set to push the brand’s full-screen design further with a 0.96mm bezel, continuing the progression seen across recent generations.

Moving from 1.25mm on the REDMAGIC 11 Pro to 0.96mm on the REDMAGIC 12 Pro is a meaningful reduction — especially for a device expected to retain REDMAGIC’s uninterrupted, hole-less under-display camera screen.

The result could be a more immersive display for gaming, streaming, and everyday use, while preserving the clean visual identity that has long separated REDMAGIC from conventional flagship smartphones.

Patent points to a new cooling design

Alongside the design teasers, a newly surfaced ZTE patent application describes a more advanced cooling architecture that combines active fan cooling, a liquid-cooling circulation loop, and a semiconductor thermoelectric cooling assembly.

The key idea is significant: rather than concentrating liquid cooling mainly around the battery area, the proposed system could allow the cooling loop to directly correspond with the phone’s heat-source assembly, potentially including the CPU section.

The patent describes a sealed liquid-cooling circuit made up of interconnected channels. A coolant-driving assembly circulates liquid through the loop, while one portion of the system is positioned near the cooling end of a semiconductor thermoelectric refrigeration component. Another portion corresponds to the device’s heat-generating components, carrying heat away through circulating coolant.

In simpler terms, the concept suggests a cooling system designed to move heat more directly from the processor area — where sustained gaming loads can create the greatest thermal pressure.

 

This would mark an evolution from the REDMAGIC 11 Pro approach, where liquid cooling was more closely associated with the battery area. If applied to a future commercial device, a system that more directly cools the chipset could help REDMAGIC sustain performance during longer gaming sessions.

That said, a patent filing is not a product confirmation. It shows the direction of ZTE’s cooling research, but does not confirm that every element of the design will appear in the REDMAGIC 12 Pro.

Built for Long Gaming Sessions

REDMAGIC product line manager Jiang Chao has described the upcoming device as a phone built for real gamers, emphasizing sustained performance, cooling for long gaming sessions, a lighter and thinner body, a distinctive design, and a complete hole-less display experience.

That combination captures the challenge behind the REDMAGIC 12 Pro: make the phone feel less bulky while maintaining the hardware needed for demanding games.

The new design direction appears to be about more than making the phone look slimmer. It is about improving the physical experience of using a gaming flagship every day — narrower bezels for a more immersive screen, smoother corners for a more comfortable grip, and potentially more sophisticated cooling beneath the surface.

Launch Is Getting Closer

The REDMAGIC 12 Pro is scheduled to debut in China this October, with a global launch expected to follow. Full details on the chipset, battery, display, cooling system, and pricing have yet to be announced.

But the early signals are promising: a near-borderless full-screen design, a lighter and slimmer body, and the possibility that REDMAGIC’s next-generation cooling strategy could extend closer to the processor itself.

For gamers, the question is no longer only how powerful the REDMAGIC 12 Pro will be. It is whether REDMAGIC can deliver that power in its most comfortable flagship body yet.
