Reports from LeicaRumors on November 19th suggest that Leica is poised to unveil its new Q3 Monochrom full-frame camera today, November 20th. This highly anticipated model is rumored to feature a dedicated 60-megapixel black and white sensor, catering specifically to monochrome photography enthusiasts.

The specialized nature of the camera is expected to be reflected in its price. In the United States market, the Q3 Monochrom could be priced as high as $7790. This represents a significant premium of approximately 15.6% over the standard Q3 model, which is priced at $6735.

The core innovation of the Leica Q3 Monochrom is its brand-new 60-megapixel full-frame sensor. The key distinction from its color counterpart is the complete removal of the Color Filter Array (CFA), a change that fundamentally alters how the camera captures light and detail.

While this modification restricts the camera to capturing native black and white photos and videos, it brings two critical advantages. Firstly, with no need for color interpolation, the resulting images should theoretically exhibit superior sharpness and finer detail. Secondly, light can reach the photosites more directly, significantly enhancing the camera's light sensitivity and promising exceptional performance in low-light environments.

Apart from the specialized sensor, the Leica Q3 Monochrom is expected to retain the same high-end hardware specifications as the standard Q3, ensuring a comprehensive flagship experience. It will feature a 5.76-million-pixel OLED electronic viewfinder with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Additionally, a tilting 3-inch touchscreen on the rear of the camera will provide modern convenience for composition and operation from various angles.

The Q3 Monochrom also inherits the excellent lens and processing engine from the standard version. The camera will be equipped with a fixed Leica Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH. lens, renowned for its outstanding image quality and a versatile macro mode. Driving the camera is the powerful Leica Maestro IV processor, capable of handling the large 60MP files, supporting 8K video recording, and delivering fast, reliable autofocus.
