LG Launches 'Easy TV': A Senior-Friendly Television

With aging populations becoming a significant challenge in many developed and developing countries, the specific needs of senior citizens in consumer electronics are gaining attention. In South Korea, for instance, the population aged 65 and over has surpassed 10 million, accounting for about one-fifth of the total registered population. This demographic shift highlights a growing demand for technology that is accessible and easy to use for everyone.

Recognizing this trend, LG Electronics identified a key pain point among its older customers. According to the company's customer service department, over 70% of inquiries from seniors regarding their televisions were related to difficulties with operation. Complex menus, small buttons, and a multitude of features often create a barrier for elderly users who want to enjoy simple entertainment.

To address this, LG Electronics has officially announced the launch of the LG Easy TV in South Korea. This new television is specifically designed to be senior-friendly, focusing on providing a convenient and considerate user experience for older customers. The product aims to bridge the technology gap and make modern entertainment accessible to this important demographic.

The LG Easy TV features a comprehensive redesign of its user interface, remote control, and camera components. The on-screen UI has been simplified with a larger font, and the home screen retains only essential and frequently used functions. The entire menu is conveniently displayed at the bottom of the screen for easy navigation. The accompanying remote control has been re-engineered with larger, more readable text and includes a backlight for better visibility in low-light conditions.

Beyond simplified controls, the TV incorporates thoughtful features to enhance daily life. A built-in function called 'LG Buddy' utilizes the camera, allowing seniors to easily make video calls with family and friends directly from their television. Furthermore, the TV includes a life reminder feature that can help users remember to take their medication on time or complete daily chores like watering plants.

The LG Easy TV is built on the foundation of LG's premium QNED Evo high-end LCD TV technology, ensuring excellent picture quality. The audio and visual output can also be adjusted to better suit the specific needs of elderly viewers. The television will be launched first in the South Korean market.
