Xreal Air Ultra 2 hits the market as a competitor to Meta's Quest 3 and Apple's Vision Pro
Xreal, a company specializing in augmented reality, has unveiled new AR glasses that will compete with Meta's Quest 3 and Apple's Vision Pro. It's about the Air 2 Ultra model, which is intended for developers, and which is already available for pre-order at a price of $699 USD.
Unlike the cheaper Air 2 model that Xreal introduced last year, the Air 2 Ultra offer full positional tracking (6DOF), which makes them ideal not only for watching TV or playing games on a flat screen projected on the glasses, but also for using AR applications. For this reason, the company advertises these glasses as a "fully equipped spatial computing device".
Namely, the all-new Xreal Air 2 Ultra offers a field of view of 52 degrees compared to the 46 degrees of the Air 2. The declared brightness is 500 nits, and each eye has a 1080p screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The glasses weigh 80 grams, which is in the range of "fashionable" ones without smart features, and they support connection to various devices including Samsung mobile phones, iPhone 15 and computers with Windows or macOS.
As we've already mentioned, the Air 2 Ultra projects a floating image in front of the user's eyes, and they also have dual 3D cameras that can map the environment and enable special features like hand tracking. As reported by The Verge, this allows developers to create applications that mix physical and digital space.
Besides, the glasses are certified by TÜV Rheinland in terms of color accuracy, eye comfort, low blue light content and flicker-free use. They also meet established ISO standards regarding image quality and comfortable viewing. In addition, the XREAL Air 2 Ultra come with movie-level sound and directional sound technology that helps prevent sound dispersion.
The Xreal Air Ultra 2 glasses will be sold through Xreal's website and will ship in the US, UK, China, Japan, South Korea, France, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. You can learn more about them here.
