Microsoft's first-quarter revenue of $50.1 billion, up 11% year-on-year

Xbox hardware revenue rose 13% amid a 3% decline in Xbox content and services revenue. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said there were nearly 20% more monthly active Windows devices than before the pandemic, despite a drop in PC shipments this quarter. However, Microsoft expects Windows OEM revenue to decline by around 30% in the second quarter of fiscal 2023, and device revenue is expected to decline by around 30%. Additionally, as part of its earnings call, Microsoft announced some new figures from GitHub, the massively popular code repository service the company acquired in 2018 for $7.5 billion. According to Microsoft, GitHub now has annual recurring revenue of $1 billion, up from the $200 million to $300 million reported at the time of the acquisition.
