Dasung Unveils World's First 50Hz E-ink Tablets: The Not-eReader S1 and L1

Dasung Technology, a company known for its E-ink displays, has officially launched the world's first E-ink tablets featuring a 50Hz high refresh rate. The new devices, named the Not-eReader S1 and Not-eReader L1, are designed to offer a smoother and more responsive user experience, addressing one of the most common limitations of traditional E-ink screens. The tablets are available in two convenient sizes: a more compact 7.8-inch model and a larger 10.3-inch version to suit different user needs.

The standout feature of these tablets is the groundbreaking display technology. Both the S1 and L1 models are equipped with a 300 PPI E-ink Carta 1200 screen, but the real innovation lies in the proprietary "DASUNG Turbo E-ink High Refresh Rate Technology." This enables the screen to achieve a refresh rate of up to 50Hz, which the company claims is five times faster than conventional E-ink displays. This technological leap promises to significantly reduce screen latency and ghosting, thereby enhancing the experience of reading, writing, and even web browsing.

Under the hood, the Not-eReader S1 and L1 are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor. This is paired with 4GB of LPDDR4X memory and 128GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage. For users who need additional space for their documents, e-books, and applications, the tablets also support storage expansion via a TF card, accommodating cards up to 2TB in size. This combination of hardware ensures a capable performance for a variety of tasks.

Dasung has outfitted the tablets with a comprehensive set of features. Connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. For audio, the devices are equipped with stereo dual speakers and dual microphones. A suite of sensors, including a gravity sensor, Hall sensor, and an ambient light sensor, is also included. To power these features, the 7.8-inch model comes with a 3200mAh battery, while the larger 10.3-inch version is fitted with a more substantial 5000mAh battery.

Beyond reading, the Not-eReader S1 and L1 are designed for productivity and creativity. The tablets support handwriting input and come with a stylus that offers 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, making them suitable for note-taking and sketching. A convenient feature of the stylus is its support for wireless charging. On the software front, the devices run on an open Android 11 operating system, giving users the freedom to install a wide range of third-party applications.
