TikTok to launch indie gaming channel

According to the British Financial Times, TikTok will launch an independent game channel.

It is understood that Assaf Sagy was named TikTok’s global head of games last month. Previously, the former McKinsey manager and Intel systems architect from Israel joined TikTok in 2020 after three years at Snap.

The new channel could be unveiled as early as November 2 at the TikTok Made Me Play It event. The event will feature speakers from gaming groups Electronic Arts, 2K, VNG Corporation, NetEase Games and Homa.

As previously reported by Reuters, the creation of the gaming channel was tested in Vietnam in May. At the time, TikTok quietly rolled out a feature that allowed video creators to link to simple games that netizens could click on and operate in a pop-up web browser.
