Everything We Know About the OnePlus 12 before launch

 OnePlus 12

OnePlus is set to launch its latest flagship phone, the OnePlus 12, in China. While the global launch isn’t expected until early 2024, the Chinese release gives us a detailed first look at what we can expect from the OnePlus 12 when it eventually rolls out worldwide.

Coming off the back of the release of the OnePlus Open, OnePlus's first foldable phone, it gives them a chance to make another big splash.  Let's unwrap the layers of innovation that OnePlus is bringing to the table with its latest marvel.

OnePlus 12 Confirmed Features

Speedy Charging

One major upgrade with the OnePlus 12 is blazing fast charging speeds. The phone supports 100W wired charging that will likely get reduced to 80W for the US release. However, that’s still extremely quick and should result in a full charge in under 30 minutes.

The OnePlus 12 also reintroduces speedy 50W wireless charging, allowing you to quickly power up without any cables. This is a big jump up from the predecessor OnePlus 11 which lacked wireless charging entirely.

Eye-Popping RAM and Storage

The OnePlus 12 will be released in multiple configurations globally, but the top-of-the-line China model truly stands out. It packs a whopping 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage—specs you’d expect to see in a high-end gaming PC, not a smartphone. While the 24GB model likely won’t make its way to all regions, it shows the blazing fast potential of the OnePlus 12.

Familiar Design with Better Dust and Water Protection

Visually, the OnePlus 12 looks very similar to last year’s OnePlus 11 flagship. It has the same centered hole-punch front camera and controversial “stacked circles” rear camera bump. The rear bump now houses the LED flash separately instead of in one of the circles.

While the design is familiar, the dust and water resistance level has been upgraded to IP65 compared to IP64 on the older model. This slight improvement makes the phone more resilient against water jets.

Top-of-the-Line Processor and Display

The OnePlus 12 is one of the first phones equipped with Qualcomm’s brand new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor built on an efficient 4nm manufacturing process. Early benchmarks show a 10% CPU and 35% GPU boost over last year’s chip. The phone also sports a gorgeous 6.7” curved OLED display with a sharp 3K resolution and fluid 120Hz refresh rate. It can hit an impressive 4,500 nits peak brightness for stellar visibility even in daylight.

Triple Rear Cameras with Hasselblad Branding

For photography, OnePlus has once again teamed up with Hasselblad for its rear triple camera array. This consists of a 50MP main sensor, 48MP ultrawide lens, and 64MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The front selfie camera comes in at 32MP. While not hugely changed from the OnePlus 11, the cameras should capture sharp, vivid shots in a range of conditions.

OnePlus 12 Release Date and Pricing TBD

OnePlus hasn’t shared exactly when the OnePlus 12 will make its way to global markets. Rumors point to a January 2024 announcement. Pricing also remains unannounced for regions outside China. But based on the specs and capabilities shown already, the OnePlus 12 will likely compete directly with offerings from Samsung, Google, and Apple.

The starting price of around $606 in China sets a promising tone. The high-end model sits at approximately $818. The question isn't just how much it will cost, but how quickly can we get our hands on it?
