iPadOS 27.3 Camera Adds Siri Tab Ahead of December Launch
Apple's latest iPadOS 27.3 camera update integrates a dedicated Siri tab directly into the viewfinder, targeting owners of recent iPad models ahead of an official public release slated for December. The change provides a faster, one-tap shortcut to visual intelligence features on tablet viewfinders, though it introduces no new underlying AI capabilities and remains limited to select silicon tiers.
Originally introduced on iPhone 15 Pro and later models via iOS 27, the dedicated Siri tab in the Camera app is now making its way to the tablet lineup through the first developer preview of iPadOS 27.3. The integration allows tablet users to bypass multi-step workflows when querying their surroundings through the device camera.
Supported iPad Models
Rather than rolling out universally across all iPadOS-compatible tablets, the new Camera shortcut is reserved for hardware with sufficient onboard processing power. Compatibility is restricted to the following devices:
- iPad Pro models equipped with the Apple M1 chip or newer
- iPad Air models equipped with the Apple M1 chip or newer
- iPad mini models equipped with the A17 Pro or A20 Pro chip

Streamlined Visual Intelligence Access
From an operational standpoint, switching to the new Siri tab within the Camera interface triggers real-time visual recognition. Users can point their tablet viewfinder at nearby subjects to identify flora and fauna, retrieve details about historical landmarks, look up retail merchandise, or instantly translate printed text on screen.
Visual intelligence functions were already operational on supported iPad hardware prior to this build. The refinement in iPadOS 27.3 focuses strictly on ergonomic access by placing the tool alongside existing shooting modes. While registered developers can test the interface immediately, general availability is expected with the broader December software rollout, subject to local language and regional restrictions.
Do you frequently rely on tablet cameras for visual lookups and live translation, or does the iPad form factor make dedicated visual intelligence shortcuts less practical than on a smartphone?
