Samsung Galaxy S26 Series to Feature APV Encoder, Rivaling Apple’s ProRes

On September 22, 2025, UniverseIce, a well-known leaker, revealed on the X platform that the Samsung Galaxy S26 series will be the first smartphones to support the APV (Advanced Professional Video) encoder, which is designed to compete with Apple’s ProRes format.

The APV encoder was launched in 2023 and was integrated into Android 16 at the beginning of this year. It offers video creators higher shooting and editing specifications, with an efficiency that is 20% better than Apple’s ProRes in terms of storage.

Specifically, the APV encoder supports both Log and HDR modes, enabling the capture of richer colors. It has a 12bit 4:4:4 parameter, which ensures accurate color representation in low-light conditions and prevents color banding during post-production. The encoder offers two recording formats: the HQ format, which occupies about 1GB per minute when shooting 1080P 30P video, and the LQ format, which takes up 0.75GB per minute.

Moreover, the photo album app on the Galaxy S26 series will support LUT filters, allowing users to directly restore the colors of Log videos on their phones. This feature enables the creation of warm Hollywood-style color aesthetics and cool sci-fi tones, making it more user-friendly compared to the iPhone, which relies on third-party software for similar functionality.

Additionally, the Galaxy S26 series will support 25/50/100P frame rates for 1080P and 4K video recording, and 25P for 8K video. The series will also feature smarter anti-shake technology, improved file scanning, and enhanced dynamic photo capabilities.
