Guide to Transfer Your Games to the Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 has become the latest sensation in the gaming world since its launch on June 5, 2025. Featuring an impressive lineup of 24 launch titles, including the highly anticipated "Mario Kart World," it has captivated gamers everywhere.
The key feature of the Nintendo Switch 2 is its System Transfer tool, which allows you to move your purchased games from your original Nintendo Switch to the new console. You can also transfer user profiles, save data, parental controls, as well as screenshots and videos.
Although the process is quite user-friendly, there are two methods to transfer your data—one that requires having a Nintendo Switch 2 on hand, and another that doesn't, perfect for those planning to upgrade soon.
Transfer Content with a Nintendo Switch 2
If you already own a Nintendo Switch 2, transferring your data is simple. After setting up your new console and completing the initial setup, you'll see an option to start a system transfer.
- Select Begin System Transfer.
- Log into your existing Nintendo Account.
- Place your original Nintendo Switch close to the new Switch 2 to enable wireless communication.
- On your original Switch, go to the HOME Menu, select System, then System Transfer to Nintendo Switch 2.
Both consoles will connect locally, and the transfer process will begin. The duration depends on how much data you have; larger collections may take some time, so patience is key.
Transfer Content Without a Nintendo Switch 2 (For Future Buyers)
If you haven't purchased a Switch 2 yet and want to prepare for future transfer, Nintendo offers a cloud-based option. You can upload your data to Nintendo's servers now and download it later when you get your new console.
- On your original Switch, go to the HOME Menu and select System Settings.
- Scroll down to System, then choose System Transfer to Nintendo Switch 2.
- Instead of connecting devices physically, select I Don't Have a Nintendo Switch 2 Yet.
- Follow the prompts to upload your data to Nintendo servers.
Note that this process will reset your original Switch to factory settings, and Nintendo will store your uploaded data for up to one year. This option is ideal if you plan to buy a Switch 2 soon, but keep in mind the data will only be available for a limited time.
