At this year's WWDC 2024, Apple unveiled the iPhone 16 series, Watch Series 10, and new AirPods. The company's AI-powered technology, Apple Intelligence, played a significant role in enhancing the user experience.
Highlights at a glance:
Introducing iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The launch of the Apple Watch Series 10 with a new design and larger screens.
The new generation of AirPods: AirPods 4, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Max 2.
Introducing "Apple Intelligence", a new AI technology.
iPhone 16 series: enhanced performance and upgraded cameras
The iPhone 16 and its various models come with many new features. There are now two additional buttons on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus case. We already know the action button from the iPhone 15 Pro. The new button called "Camera Control", on the other hand, is new. It can be used to open the camera app with the touch of a button. A second press then triggers a snapshot. Holding the button starts a video.
The new device has a significant upgrade in its camera system, alongside a more powerful A18 chip that provides enhanced performance and energy efficiency. The new camera system consists of a telephoto lens (48MP) and a wide-angle camera (12MP). The camera is also the biggest difference from the iPhone 16 Pro (Max), which also has a new camera button. The device has an additional objective. In total, the Pro models offer 48MP, 48MP, and 12MP ultra-wide, wide-angle and telephoto lenses.
The hardware jump will be especially noticeable when taking motion pictures. In the future, 4K video at 120 frames per second should be possible. The A18 Pro processor should form the heart of the fast performance. Apple also wants to live up to the Pro's claim visually. As usual, the Pro looks a bit sleeker than the base version. Additionally, the screen size has increased to 6.3 inches (Pro) and 6.9 inches (Pro Max) compared to its predecessor.
- The standard iPhone 16 starting at $799 and the iPhone 16 Plus starting at $899.
- The iPhone 16 Pro will be priced at $999, while the Pro Max model will start at $1,199.
All models will be available for pre-order on Friday and hit stores on September 20.
Apple Watch Series 10: Elegance meets technology
The new Apple Watch Series 10 impresses with a slimmer design and larger screens that provide more information at a glance. Unfortunately, the Watch Series 10 did not receive a major design update to mark its 10th anniversary.
The display now measures either 45mm or 49mm, and the case is noticeably thinner. However, there are only a few new features. The most interesting feature is definitely the sleep apnea detection that has been introduced now. This is also the case with the Apple Watch Ultra. Now it should be able to measure the water temperature thanks to a suitable sensor.
- Apple Watch Series 10: from 449 euros (launch on the market: September 20)
- Apple Watch Ultra 2: from 899 euros (launch on the market: September 20)
New AirPods and Apple Intelligence
The recently introduced AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 offer improved sound quality and improved noise cancellation. Apple also wants to offer AirPods 4 in two different versions. One with and one without ANC.
Hearing-impaired people will also soon be able to enjoy a hearing aid function with AirPods Pro 2. Thanks to the innovative H2 chip, this new system will also include smart features designed to protected hearing.
Something is set to change with the AirPods Max as well. Apple says goodbye to the Lightning connector and switches to the USB-C port. Of course, there was also some interesting news about "Apple Intelligence". However, only US users will be able to enjoy this for now. There is too much uncertainty from the tech company about whether the innovations are also compliant with the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

- AirPods 4 (ANC): pre-order now for $179, with a market launch on September 20
