Hands-On with the LEITZPHONE: Xiaomi's 17 Ultra International Edition with a Differentiated Design

Xiaomi officially launched the LEITZPHONE, the international version of its 17 Ultra, at MWC 2026. This edition, co-branded with Leica, features several subtle yet significant design differences from its domestic Chinese counterpart, including the back cover style and logo orientation.

Examining the back of the phone reveals the most prominent changes. The LEITZPHONE is available in a single color option with a unified black matte texture across the entire back panel. This contrasts with the dual-finish matte and lychee leather texture found on the Chinese version. Furthermore, the iconic red Leica logo in the top-left corner has been shifted from a horizontal to a vertical orientation. The Leica lens markings within the camera module have also been adjusted to a vertical layout to match this new aesthetic.

Moving to the sides, the LEITZPHONE features an elegant champagne gold frame that complements the master zoom ring on the camera module. While the power and volume buttons remain identical in style to the domestic 17 Ultra, the left side of the frame is inscribed with "LEICA CAMERA GERMANY," further reinforcing its prestigious camera heritage.

The front of the device remains familiar, as the LEITZPHONE shares the same display as the 17 Ultra and Pro Max models. It boasts a 6.9-inch AMOLED screen with a 2608×1200 resolution, a 120Hz variable refresh rate, and an impressive peak brightness of 3500 nits.

The software experience has also been tailored to the Leica brand. The LEITZPHONE's user interface features a minimalist black-and-white theme, with icon designs that are more restrained compared to the domestic version. The custom widgets utilize the classic Leica font, and the camera app includes a special "Leica Instant" mode, which offers filters that emulate the look of the legendary M9 and M3 rangefinder cameras.
