Insta360's New Gimbal Camera to Challenge DJI Pocket with Telephoto Lens and Modular Design

According to multiple sources, Insta360 is preparing to launch a new handheld gimbal camera within the first half of this year. The upcoming device is positioned to be a direct competitor to the popular DJI Pocket series and is expected to be available in several different color versions.

The most significant rumored feature is a potential dual-camera system, which would introduce the industry's first handheld gimbal camera with a dedicated telephoto function. This move could signal a major advancement in the capabilities of pocket-sized cameras.

Leaked images, reportedly of a prototype from a lab environment, showcase a distinct modular architecture. These photos suggest that the lens module, display screen, and battery handle can all be detached and reconfigured independently. This design philosophy would offer users a new level of versatility and customization.

The prototype images also indicate that Insta360 is developing two different lens modules. One module features a three-axis mechanical gimbal, similar in design to the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. The other is a larger, independent lens module without a visible mechanical gimbal, hinting at different use cases or stabilization technologies.

Adding to the speculation, a recently leaked image on Reddit, initially believed to be the unannounced DJI Osmo Pocket 4 Pro, was reposted by Insta360's founder, Liu Jingkang. He cryptically commented, "Is it possible it's not from DJI?", strongly suggesting the device in the leak is, in fact, Insta360's upcoming product.

While Insta360 has yet to make an official announcement, the combination of a modular design and a first-of-its-kind telephoto lens could significantly shake up the handheld gimbal market. This new camera appears poised to be a formidable challenger to DJI's long-standing dominance in the category.
