Minisforum Unveils MS-S1 MAX: A "Strix Halo" Powered AI Workstation with USB4 v2 and PCIe Expansion

Minisforum officially announced its new AI workstation mini-PC solution, the MS-S1 MAX, on September 16th. This powerful machine is built around AMD's upcoming Ryzen AI Max+ 395 "Strix Halo" processor, positioning it as a high-performance option for demanding tasks. While the product has been revealed, it is not yet available for purchase.

The Minisforum MS-S1 MAX is engineered for robust performance within a compact aluminum alloy chassis. It features a built-in 320W power supply and an advanced cooling system combining phase-change TIM, a copper base, six heat pipes, and dual fans. This thermal solution enables the workstation to handle a peak performance of 160W and sustain 130W, ensuring stability under heavy workloads. Furthermore, its versatile design allows for deployment as either a desktop unit or in a 2U rack-mounted configuration.

Internally, the mini workstation is equipped with impressive specifications. It supports up to 128GB of high-speed LPDDR5x-8000 memory. For storage, it provides one M.2 PCIe 4.0×4 slot and one M.2 PCIe 4.0×1 slot. A standout feature for a device of this size is the inclusion of a physical full-length PCIe 4.0×4 slot, offering significant expansion capabilities for graphics cards, network adapters, or other peripherals.

The front I/O panel of the MS-S1 MAX offers convenient access to essential ports. It includes the power button, two digital microphone inputs, two full-function 40Gbps USB-C ports, and a 3.5mm combination audio jack for headsets and microphones.

The rear of the device boasts a comprehensive array of high-speed connectivity options suitable for a professional workstation. This includes one HDMI 2.1 FRL port, two USB-A 2.0 (480Mbps) ports, two cutting-edge full-function 80Gbps USB4 v2.0 Type-C ports, and two 10Gbps USB-A ports. For networking, it is equipped with two 10GbE RJ45 ports powered by Realtek RTL8127 chips, alongside a Kensington security lock slot.
