Sony Enhances WH-1000XM6 and Anniversary Edition Headphones with Gaming-Focused Firmware Update

Sony has rolled out a significant firmware update for two of its premium noise-canceling headphones, the 1000X 10th Anniversary Collector's Edition (WH-1000XX) and the WH-1000XM6. The new updates are identified by version numbers 1.3.0 and 3.1.5, respectively, and bring key new features and improvements.

The centerpiece of this firmware is the introduction of support for the Gaming Audio Profile (GMAP). This is a low-latency Bluetooth profile specifically optimized for gaming, designed to reduce audio lag for a more synchronized and immersive experience. In addition to this new gaming-centric profile, the firmware also brings general performance improvements, ensuring a more stable and refined overall user experience.

The two models receiving the update are both top-tier offerings from the company. The Sony 1000X 10th Anniversary Collector's Edition was released in May of this year, while the WH-1000XM6 was launched in May 2025. Both headphones share an identical and powerful noise-canceling technology stack, which includes the HD Noise Canceling Processor QN3, a setup of 12 high-performance microphones, and an adaptive noise optimizer.
