Ulanzi Unveils VF01 Waist-Level Viewfinder, Blending Retro Style with Modern Functionality

On November 4, Ulanzi announced the overseas launch of its VF01 External Waist-Level Viewfinder, a new accessory designed with a distinct retro aesthetic. It aims to bring the classic charm of film-era waist-level shooting to contemporary digital camera users. The viewfinder has a standard focal length of 28mm and features built-in 35mm and 50mm dual frame lines, offering a nostalgic yet practical way to compose photographs.

Optically, the VF01 is equipped with a 3-element lens group featuring high light transmittance to minimize distortion and artifacts, ensuring a clearer visual experience. The top of the unit incorporates a frosted glass focusing screen. While its standard focal length is 28mm (on a 35mm full-frame equivalent), the integrated 35mm and 50mm frame lines allow photographers to accurately preview compositions for lenses in these standard focal ranges.

The design features a magnetic, retro-style pop-up hood that springs open with the press of a side button. This hood effectively shields the screen from ambient light, providing a purer view for shooting.
