The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Everything you need to Know to be successful

Tears of a kingdom is the latest episode in the long-running Zelda franchise

Let’s be honest, Tears of the Kingdom is an epic of a game. If you’ve sat down, popped the disk in, fired it up and feel like your brain is doing the macarena trying to understand it all -you’re not alone. There‘s loads to learn when it comes to this game and to start with, it can all seem a bit chaotic.

So if you fancy a different more strategic line of attack, we recommend letting your cortisol levels relax for the next 5 minutes and reading this preparatory guide.

In this post, we’ll share some tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your experience playing Tears of the Kingdom.

Don't rush to leave the first island

The first island is part of a floating cluster called the Great Sky Island. We’ve all been there with a new game, and of course, it’s so tempting to want to fly through the levels like a unicorn after a line of rainbow dust, but if it’s possible just take a breath. The Sky Island is the perfect place to get acquainted with the game's mechanics and learn the ropes before venturing into the wider world below. Experiment with building contraptions like fan-powered rafts and minecarts, and master Link's magic arm. And don’t worry, the anti is going to seriously ramp up once you leave.

Become Bob the Builder with Zonai Devices

One of the coolest features in Tears of the Kingdom is the ability to build all sorts of incredible things using Zonai devices passed on from an ancient civilization. Although some of this mystical technology resembles real-world objects, many have sci-fi-esque applications. A fan for example can be combined with other objects to create a glider or a hoverbike.

Users can get creative with the machines they create

Zelda meets Vegas- Gashapon Machines

If you thought you’d let your gambling addiction settle down for a few weeks whilst you went on a Zelda bender, think again. Now for just a rupee, Zelda players can spin the Gashapon machines to expand their arsenal. The Zonai devices you can get from the dispensers can be separated into four groups. You can get every type of device if you visit most of the device dispensers on the map. But, since the items are exchanged from Zonai charges or materials through a Gacha system, you won’t be able to choose which device you’ll get.

Hold on to your hard-earned pocket change

While you'll stumble upon numerous items throughout the game, it's important to exercise caution and preserve your treasures. Even seemingly insignificant crap can evolve into essential resources for upgrading armour and weapons as you progress. So if you can, resist the temptation to sell or discard everything you find.

Master the Map

The in-game map is your guiding star in Tears of the Kingdom. It holds a wealth of valuable information, including hidden locations, quests, and secrets. In order to uncover The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's map, players need to locate the towers spread across the game much like the towers found in Breath of the Wild. But, in Tears of a Kingdom these towers are much more straightforward and won’t require you to scale them to turn them on.

Unlocking the map is one of the most important strategies in the new Zelda game1

To unlock the Skyview Towers scattered across the vast realm of Hyrule, players must engage in a slightly peculiar ritual. First, you'll need to cosy up to the terminal inside the tower. Tap, swipe, and interact to awaken the tower's fast travel capabilities. Step onto the platform in the tower's centre, and get ready as Link soars through the air like a majestic parrot. He'll scan the surrounding landscape, and with a tap of the A button, your map will update.
