8BitDo Controllers Now Officially Supported on Steam
On July 3rd, the controller manufacturer 8BitDo has officially announced support for its controllers on Steam, allowing users to play without needing third-party drivers. This compatibility extends to SteamOS devices, such as the Steam Deck, and other handhelds.

8BitDo and Valve collaborated for nearly half a year to optimize the controllers for Steam. They upgraded the driver programs of 8BitDo controllers, adding new functional modules and optimizing algorithms to ensure seamless integration with Steam games.
Currently, Steam supports several 8BitDo models, including the 8BitDo Hunter 2 True Wireless PC Edition, the "Ming Mo: Abyssal Feather" Limited Edition Controller, Pro 2, and SN30 Pro. Users need to update their controller firmware and Steam client to the latest versions to take full advantage of these features. More models are expected to be supported in the future.
The main features of this compatibility include:
- Native support for Steam Input API, enabling plug-and-play functionality.
- Key mapping that allows mixing controller, mouse, and keyboard commands to suit various gaming scenarios.
- Gyroscope and vibration feedback for immersive experiences. The gyroscope can be configured as a mouse or joystick, with adjustable sensitivity and dead zones.
- Cross-platform configuration file management, allowing users to load personalized settings on other platforms instantly.
This development enhances the gaming experience for 8BitDo users on Steam, offering greater convenience and functionality.
