This past May, the innovative smart imaging brand LEAPTIC officially launched its new product: the LEAPTIC Cube, touted as the "world's first 8K AI thumb action camera." We've got our hands on this new device, and here’s a closer look at its design and features.

 

The LEAPTIC Cube's main camera unit is incredibly compact, weighing in at just 55.9 grams. Its body is constructed from a composite material with a skin-friendly coating, providing a comfortable grip and some slip resistance. The front features a single physical button for quick captures and a dual-microphone array for audio recording, while the bottom houses metal contacts for its magnetic modular system, handling both power and data transfer.

 

In terms of imaging hardware, the LEAPTIC Cube is equipped with a large 1/1.3-inch sensor with 50 million effective pixels. It supports video recording up to a stunning 8K at 30fps and offers a 4K at 120fps option for high-frame-rate slow-motion. For still photography, it can output 50-megapixel photos. Furthermore, the main camera unit itself is IPX8 waterproof, allowing it to handle rain or shallow water without an additional protective case.

 

The standout feature of the LEAPTIC Cube is its magnetic split-body design. The system is composed of three primary components: the main camera unit, a screen module, and a separate power block. The extension screen module features a 2.27-inch LCD touchscreen, with a power button on the side. A small cover conceals a Type-C port and a TF card slot. For storage, the camera comes with either 64GB or 128GB of internal memory and supports expansion up to 1TB via a TF card.
