Huawei Mate X6 Announced With New Cameras, HarmonyOS Next and AI
Huawei Mate X6 is official: the foldable smartphone debuts today alongside the Mate 70 series. In the highlights, the Huawei Mate X6 arrives on the Chinese market with a luxurious design, larger screens, a renewed photographic set and follows the mobile industry trend by bringing artificial intelligence features with the HarmonyOS Next operating system.
Design and specs
The Huawei Mate X6 has a glass back with a marble-like appearance, but there is also another variant with leather. Its construction uses basalt, which makes the device resistant to damage.
Additionally, the display architecture utilizes carbon fiber with a 380 GPa material that increases rigidity by 65%, while the device body employs aviation-grade aluminum with a strength of 550 MPa that increases overall durability by 37%.
The Huawei Mate X6 features a 7.93-inch internal display and a 6.45-inch external display, both of which are larger than its predecessor. For comparison, the Mate X5 has displays measuring 7.85 and 6.4 inches, respectively.
The internal display has a peak brightness of 1,800 nits, a resolution of 2,440 x 1,080 pixels, and features LTPO 2.0 technology with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a PWM of 1,400 Hz. In the case of the internal display, there are 2,500 nits, 2,440 x 2,240 pixels, LTPO 2.0 with 120 Hz and 1,440 Hz.
This model is available in options with 12GB or 16GB of RAM, along with internal storage choices of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB. Under the hood, Huawei does not mention the processor, but it may be the Kirin 9100.
In the photographic set, the Huawei Mate X6 has a 50MP main sensor, variable aperture (F1.4-F4.0), and optical image stabilization, 40MP ultrawide, 48MP telephoto with 4x optical zoom, and infrared sensor. For selfies and video calls, it is equipped with an 8MP front camera.
In terms of operating system, the Huawei Mate X6 comes with HarmonyOS NEXT and several artificial intelligence features. There are gestures to share content with another device without touching the screen or play basketball with AI.
The device is offered in both standard and collector's edition versions. The two models have different amounts of RAM and internal storage, and the latter features triple satellite connectivity. In addition, the former has a 5,110mAh battery, while the latter has a 5,200mAh battery.
Both have 66W fast charging, 50W wireless charging, and 7.5W reverse charging. In terms of dimensions, the device measures 156.6 x 73.78 x 9.85 mm when folded and 156.6 x 144.04 x 4.6 when open, and weighs 239 grams. Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint reader, IPX8 certification for water and dust resistance, Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, and USB 3.1.
Collector's Edition
Huawei also introduced a Collector's Edition version of its foldable Mate X6. While it has the same specs as the standard model, the Collector's Edition variant differs in RAM/storage and an interesting new feature called triple-network satellite support. This allows for two-way satellite messaging, two-way calling, and low-orbit satellite internet, although the internet capabilities are still being tested. Additionally, the phone has a 5,200mAh battery.
