Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro: New Top Models Introduced, Starting from $620
As promised, Xiaomi held a new event this Tuesday (29), which featured the presentation of new top-of-the-line cell phones, the brand's artificial intelligence, and many other novelties. Among the highlights, we had the revelation of the new Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro, which are equipped with the brand new Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and arrive to compete head-to-head with Apple's iPhone 16 and Samsung's Galaxy S24 lines. Xiaomi 15: The most powerful compact flagship
This model is positioned as the most powerful standard version in the company's history, combining advanced specifications with a compact and premium design.
It features a 6.36-inch flat OLED display with symmetrical ultra-thin bezels measuring just 1.38mm, a resolution of 2670x1200, a 1-120Hz LTPO variable refresh rate, and a maximum brightness of 3,200 nits, along with full-range DC dimming. The display is protected by Xiaomi's Dragon Crystal Glass, which is 10 times more shatterproof than the Xiaomi 14.
The Xiaomi 15 is powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which delivers a 45% increase in single-core and multi-core performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Combined with Xiaomi HyperCore, it ensures a 45.7% faster app launch response time, enhancing the overall user experience. The Xiaomi 15 runs on HyperOS 2.0, based on Android. The system is optimized for this compact flagship, including advanced thermal management and fine-tuned system performance.
The Xiaomi 15's camera system, co-developed with Leica, includes three 50MP Summilux lenses: the main Light Fusion 900 sensor (1/1.3-inch, f/1.62, OIS), a 50MP ultra-wide-angle sensor (Samsung S5KJN1, f/2.2), and a 50MP telephoto lens (Samsung S5KJN5, 1/2.75-inch, f/2.0, OIS) with 5x optical zoom. On the front, it has a 32MP OmniVision OV32B40 selfie camera, housed in a centrally-mounted punch-hole design.
The Xiaomi 15 is equipped with a very large 5,400mAh battery for a compact size, supporting 90W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging. The device also introduces 30W magnetic wireless charging.
In addition, the Xiaomi 15 also has an ultrasonic fingerprint under the screen for quick unlocking even when your hands are wet. The device has a premium aluminum unibody frame with a four-curved design, ensuring a comfortable grip. The device is IP68 dust and water-resistant, providing long-lasting features such as NFC and infrared remote control.
Xiaomi 15 Pro: Comprehensive flagship with many advanced technologies
The Xiaomi 15 Pro features a 6.73-inch 2K curved OLED display with a resolution of 3200 x 1440. It uses TCL CSOT's M9 light-emitting material with a dual-layer emissive structure, reducing power consumption by 24% compared to the Xiaomi 14 Pro. The display supports LTPO adaptive refresh rates from 1-120Hz, with a maximum brightness of 3,200 nits, along with Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 2.0, providing 25-30% better drop resistance.
The Xiaomi 15 Pro comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite, powered by the second-generation Oryon CPU, which delivers a 45% increase in single-core and multi-core performance, along with a 44% increase in power efficiency compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The phone also has LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage, ensuring seamless multitasking and faster data speeds. Additionally, the phone has a vapor chamber cooling system with a heat dissipation area of 4,053mm².
The Xiaomi 15 Pro's camera system is a major highlight, consisting of three cameras with a 50MP main sensor (Sony LYT900, 1/1.3 ", f/1.44 aperture, OIS), a 50MP ultra-wide-angle sensor (Samsung S5KJN1, f/2.2) and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens (Sony IMX858, OIS).
The periscope camera offers 5X optical zoom and 10X lossless zoom, enhanced by Xiaomi's ALD ultra-transparent coating and customized by Leica to improve image clarity. The front camera is a 32MP OmniVision OV32B40 sensor.
The Xiaomi 15 Pro has a 6,100mAh battery with silicon-carbon nanotube and high-voltage lithium cobalt construction, providing an energy density of 850Wh/L and maintaining 80% capacity after 1,600 charge cycles. It supports 90W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging, with Xiaomi's Surge P3 and G1 chips to improve charging efficiency and battery life.
The Xiaomi 15 Pro also includes satellite connectivity, but only in China. It has ultrasonic fingerprint recognition, IP68 water and dust resistance, and Wi-Fi 7 compatibility.
Price and availability
Xiaomi 15 is available in four color combinations, namely white, black, green, and purple at a price starting at 4,499 yuan (approx. $630) for the variant with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory, while the most equipped version with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of memory costs 5,499 yuan (approx. $771).
The Pro model is available in grey, green, and white colors at a price starting at 5,299 yuan (about $743) for the basic version with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, with the most equipped version with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage the interested party will come to 6,499 yuan (approx. $911).
As can be seen from the prices in Chinese currency, the news will be available from October 31 for the Chinese market only for now. We should see the global premiere at the beginning of next year, specifically at Barcelona's traditional MWC trade fair.
