Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design Launches With G-Fold Design and Hardware Privacy Screen

Huawei has officially launched the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design, its latest tri-fold smartphone and one of the most ambitious foldables of 2026.

Huawei Mate XT 2

The new model starts at 19,999 yuan in China and introduces a redesigned G-fold structure, a 10.2-inch folding display, Huawei’s new Kirin 9050 Pro chip, and what the company describes as the first hardware-level privacy screen on a foldable phone.

A New G-Fold Body

The Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design moves away from the earlier Z-style tri-fold layout and adopts a new G-fold design. Huawei says the phone measures 12.3mm thick when folded and just 3.5mm when unfolded, making it impressively thin for a device with three screen sections.

The inner display opens to 10.2 inches, supports 3K resolution, and uses a 12.8:9 aspect ratio. The outer screen measures 6.5 inches with a 2442 x 1140 resolution and up to 6,500 nits peak brightness.

Huawei is also pitching durability as a major upgrade. The company says the phone uses a reinforced tri-fold architecture with redesigned hinge and screen layers, plus IP58/IP59 dust and water resistance, a first for Huawei’s tri-fold line.

Hardware-Level Privacy Screen

One of the more unusual upgrades is privacy protection.

Huawei says the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design can be configured with a Lingdun privacy screen that uses an independent dual-pixel structure. When privacy mode is turned on, the display remains visible from the front but appears dark from the side.

That feature can be activated by double-tapping the outer screen or using the smart control button. For a foldable this large, it makes sense: a 10.2-inch screen is useful for work, but it is also much easier for people nearby to glance at.

Kirin 9050 Pro and HarmonyOS 7

The phone debuts Huawei’s new Kirin 9050 Pro chip. Huawei claims overall performance is up 42% compared with the Mate XTs, with CPU single-core peak performance up 24% and multi-core concurrent performance up 52%.

The chip also includes a Maliang GPU, Da Vinci NPU, and Balong modem. Huawei says it supports real-time ray tracing, on-device multimodal AI models, Tiantong satellite communication, Beidou satellite messaging, and improved connectivity for high-speed rail scenarios.

The Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design ships with HarmonyOS 7, with software adapted for tri-fold use. It supports split-screen work, three apps on one screen, large-screen chart viewing, and a PC app zone when paired with accessories such as a folding keyboard or M-Pen 3 Mini stylus.

Cameras and Accessories

The rear camera system includes four cameras:

  • 50MP RYYB main camera with 1/1.28-inch sensor, LOFIC technology, OIS, and F1.49-F4.0 variable aperture
  • 50MP RYYB periscope telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom, OIS, and telephoto macro
  • 40MP RYYB ultra-wide camera
  • Third-generation Red Maple primary color camera for improved color accuracy
